While I imagine many of you are first time visitors, even for those of you who are frequent fliers, we’ve probably never really been properly introduced! One thing that has been great about this site – and that I never anticipated when I first decided to create it – is that it has allowed me to connect with so many interesting people from all across the world, especially through the social media pages. I’ve bonded with some of you over the frustrations of having to eat restrictive diets, but I’ve also gotten to know some of you through talking about our pets, families, and life experiences! It’s these conversations and connections that made me realize I wanted to turn this blog into more than just a “digital recipe book.” We’re all going through life and having all kinds of unique and different experiences, yet so much of what we go through on our individual journeys is all to reach a universal destination, whether that’s love, happiness, health, financial stability, faith, family, etc.
With that in mind, here’s a little introduction to the main cast of characters that fill up every day of my story!
Natalie (a.k.a. ME)
Well, okay, you probably already know who I am since you’re reading my blog 😉 , but here’s a little more about me that you may not know! In a former life (aka from 2001 – 2012), I was a professional recording artist and songwriter bouncing between Nashville, LA, and NYC pretty regularly. When I moved to D.C. in 2013 to go to school, I took a lot of things down and removed everything from iTunes and Spotify, etc., so there’s not too much left out there…but as we all know, once something is on the internet, it’s never really gone. So, you can read a little more about that part of my life on its Wikipedia page 😛 . I moved to D.C. to get my B.A. in International Affairs from The George Washington University after having a mid-life crisis (at 22 years old) where I determined that I didn’t know enough about the world and had to become better educated. So, I packed up that old life and moved across the country to go live in a city I’d never even visited before and where I knew exactly no people. Looking back, it was kind of an insane decision, but it ended up being the best decision I’d made up to that point, because it led me to my husband and our family. Speaking of whom…
This is my wonderful, amazing, handsome, all-the-superlatives husband, Adam. I would never have been able to start this blog, or handle all the crazy changes life has thrown at us over the last few years without him. He’s my favorite. He’s also an amazing cook, and maybe if we’re lucky, he’ll let me share some of his recipes on here one day! He makes, hands down, the BEST fried chicken and the BEST ribs I’ve ever had anywhere. I lived in Nashville – I’ve had Memphis ribs. I’m from Louisiana – I’ve had authentic soul food. And all I’m sayin’ is, his is the best.
Ares & Athena
These are our giant Great Dane babies. We like to joke that we got the opposite ends of the spectrum with these two.
Ares is the largest Dane we’ve ever seen in person – at 5 years old and 200 lbs, he towers over Adam (who is 6’3″) when he stands on his hind legs. He is truly the sweetest dog I’ve ever met. He’s always so gentle and calm. His life goal is to have all of the snuggles, and we try to help him reach that every day!
Athena, on the other hand is one of the smallest Danes we’ve ever seen – She’s 18 months old and only 110 lbs. She’s a bit taller than me when she stands, but that’s not saying much, as I’m only 5’4″. To us, she seems small, but almost every time I walk her, someone says something about how big she is! I think our perspective is just warped, thanks to Ares! Athena is the total opposite of Ares. She’s wild, energetic, and all over the place! I always say she’s more like a cat to me; she’ll run up to you and wait until you acknowledge her, but the second you try to pet her, she’ll pull away and run off like “Don’t touch me!” She’s nuts and we wouldn’t have it any other way!
And that’s our little family! Thanks for letting me share them with you. Now, you’ll have some faces to go with the names whenever you see them pop up on the blog! Our life isn’t perfect, but it sure is an adventure!
